Jewish Federation to Hold ‘Confronting Anti-Semitism’ Program May 18

According to the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) recent first-ever Global Survey of anti-Semitism around the world, it found that 1.09 billion people in the world today harbor anti-Semitic attitudes. And sadly, as the news has shown, it feels like this figure is rising even higher every day.

With this in mind, the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys is coordinating a special community-wide program entitled “Confronting Anti-Semitism: What is Really Happening on College Campuses Today and How We Can Help.” The event is scheduled on Monday, May 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center.

In its most recent internal audit, the ADL discovered that the rise has stemmed in large part due to the significant increase in anti-Israel sentiment. One of the areas that is facing the biggest challenge are college and university campuses all over the United States, including significant events in our local Southern California campuses (i.e. UCLA, Occidental, Cal Poly Pomona, Claremont Colleges, etc.)

“The local, national and international Jewish community is facing a major situation with the significant rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment.” explains Jason Moss, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. “It is our responsibility to get the community members discussing this and working together with us to address it.”

This important program, being supported by all of the local synagogues and Jewish schools, will provide attendees a better perspective of the situation, an up-to-date explanation of what is truly happening on college campuses today, and provide community members ideas of how collectively the community can better address the rise in anti-Semitism.
