The Scoop: Mommy and me brunching

Where are you going to take your favorite lady for her favorite holiday? It’s a question many of us scramble to answer right before that second, very special Sunday of May. Don’t panic— try brunch instead. There are a lot of options out there, so we’ve rounded up our suggestions in a tidy, comprehensive list. We’ve even taken the liberty to highlight specific menu items for each location. The Larchmont | Larchmont Village

Searching for that classic meal but tired of all the tried and true brunch spots around LA? Look no further than The Larchmont. With the spirit of the past, the restaurant is bringing us foodies something new: brunch, which they will begin serving May 9th, just in time for mom.

BRUNCH ON: First choose the staple item of Deviled Eggs with smoked whitefish, caviar and Meyer lemon. Then, and for all those Moms with the munchies, move on to a second course of The Stoner, a peanut butter crunch French toast with a side of maple bacon, roasted banana, and an optional addition foie. The Larchmont will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for lunch from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Gracias Madre | West Hollywood

With a name like that, there couldn’t be a more obvious place to take the women you owe the most thanks to. And if you needed any more convincing, all Moms get a complimentary cocktail. No brainer, right?

BRUNCH ON:  For this Mexican-inspired vegetarian spot, we’d recommend starting with a their Potato and Chorizo Hash topped with avocado, cashew nacho cheese, and cilantro. Follow that up with Tofu Ranchero Scramble all while sipping on a Mexican Mimosa, made with habanero infused elderflower liquor. Gracias Madre will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for lunch from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Hinoki & the Bird  | Century City

You may want to pass on the traditional eats this time around, and go with Hinoki & the Bird instead who will be serving Mother’s day brunch for the first time. Inspired equally by the Silk Road and California, this spot takes flavor to new levels. Like, next level.

BRUNCH ON: Take a bite out of the Onoyako Toast paired with soft scrambled eggs, chicken, fresh green garlic, and shiso aioli. Looking for More? Order the citrus flavored Maine Lobster with a side of chile crab eggs and somen noodles. Hinoki & the Bird will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for lunch from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The Church Key  | West Hollywood

Known for a dim sum service style and canned and frozen cocktails, treat mom and yourself to one of the coolest restaurants around. Mommy will be proud that you’re a foodie maven who knows the hot-spots.

BRUNCH ON:  Keep an eye out for their Benton Ham Eggs Benedict with truffle Béarnaise or their German Souffle Pancakes with brown butter and Meyer lemon. Still hungry? Salt Air  | Venice

Not feeling a heavy meal of eggs and biscuits? Head over to Abbot Kinney for a light and airy brunch. Then, spend the rest of the day exploring the neighborhood with Moms. Cause, Venice.

BRUNCH ON:  Salt Air’s brunch specialities include items such as Grilled Octopus with Beluga Lentils and Chorizo, Mussels with Coconut Curry, and Olive Oil Poached Salmon. Oh, and also, we’d add a side of herd french fries. Salt Air will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for lunch starting at 11:00 am.

The Pikey | Hollywood

English fair isn’t exactly what comes to mind when you think LA brunch. But maybe it should. Take your mom…or rather your mum to The Pikey for a brunch menu especially for her special day.

BRUNCH ON:  Make mom feel like the queen with their Crumpets with Honeycomb and Clotted Cream. Then switch the sweet with the ultra savory with this spot’s decadent Curry on Toast with a Fried Duck Egg or an asparagus garlic quiche and house cured char with fresh brioche and home made cream cheese. Cooks County | Beverly Grove

Does your mom have a bit of a sweet tooth? IHOP might not due. Try Cooks County instead, where everything is farm to table and the perfect spot to get your overdue pancake fix.

BRUNCH ON:  A stack of baked pancakes with berry compote and bourbon-barrel maple syrup sounds like the perfect start to any Sunday. To keep the day going sweet, we’d top that off with their Pecan Sticky Buns or fresh Jelly Donuts. Cooks County will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for bunch from 10:00 am to 3:00pm.

Blue Plate Oysterette | Santa Monica/West Hollywood

Spending Mother’s day by the sea sounds almost perfect, almost. Add fresh oysters and it is perfect.

BRUNCH ON:  Blue Plate Oysterette will be offering a prix-fixe menu this Mother’s day featuring seafood favorites: Crab Cakes, Lobster Hash and a Shrimp Louie Salad. Don’t forget to end your dream seafood brunch with a slice of their Key Lime Pie. Cecconi’s | West Hollywood

Mamma mia! With early origins in northern Italy, Cecconi’s is the ideal place to go for a truly transportive meal. Oh, and they have a mother’s day brunch special too.

BRUNCH ON:  Take advantage of their special and order the Poached Eggs, Artichokes, and Crispy Prosciutto or get down with the White Chocolate Mousse with strawberries and meringue. Maybe you want to stick to their staples? Try the lamb sausage and roast peppers or the squash blossom, goat cheese, and Black Truffle Pizza. Bottega Louie | DTLA

You thought we’d forget about dessert, didn’t you? Nope. Our fave DTLA sweet spot—their brunch menu items are also delicious—serve up a full on Mother’s Day menu, along with a limited edition Mother’s Day gift box.

BRUNCH ON: Bottega Louie’s Lobster Hash includes Maine lobster tail, yukon gold potatoes, shallots, two poached eggs and smoked paprika hollandaise sauce. Umm, yes. We think that should do it (or keep it simple with their New York Egg Sandwich). Bottega Louie will be open for Mother’s day, Sunday, May 10^th, 2015 for bunch starting at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 pm.
