Gil Garcetti will speak at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden about his journey from being District Attorney of Los Angeles to photographer with nine beautiful and thought-provoking books that have led to exhibitions and speaking engagements all over the world.
His slideshow will focus on his most recent collection of photographs which capture and illustrate Japanese reverence for beauty. This apparently intrinsic need for beauty is evident in every aspect of Japanese life, and raises questions of what we can learn from this ancient tradition, how our own lives might be altered and enriched.
Garcetti’s book on the subject is itself an artwork, a limited edition selling for $250 apiece. See the images that make up this tribute and join Garcetti in a meaningful dialogue Friday, April 24th. The garden will open at 6:30 and the talk will begin at 7:00 a.m. Admission is $10.
