Be careful Monrovia when you go to the polls
Dear Editor:
I don’t live in Monrovia. I live in Glendora and as a former Mayor of Glendora I am deeply concerned should Mary Ann Lutz be re-elected as Monrovia’s Mayor. I watched Mary Ann Lutz support the National Recreation Area legislation by Cong. Judy Chu that impacted Glendora, our hillsides and water supply without consulting our Council and without answers to questions. In fact, I would say she railroaded the legislation through the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments subcommittee on Environment totally disregarding the approved guidelines established by other member cities. She chaired for Cong. Judy Chu and now Supervisor Hilda Solis what was presumed to be a Town Hall in Claremont to take public testimony on the proposed legislation. Many of those impacted showed up to talk and ask questions but were ignored and those bused in, all wearing yellow T-shirts, some requiring a translator to communicate, were given priority to speak. I was told Mary Ann Lutz wrote a letter to the SGV COG rescinding her vote in support of Chu’s NRA legislation but that little flip-flop on her part does not remove the fact she used her position on the Council of Governments and had her own agenda supporting legislation impacting all foothill cities without consulting any of them and not allowing public testimony by those directly impacted. And, that legislation could be re-introduced. Will Mary Ann Lutz flip-flop back and support a renewed effort by Cong. Chu and the faraway D.C. government to take over control of our hillsides if re-elected? And, take-over of your parks purchased by Monrovia citizens who are paying off that bonded indebtedness? Be careful Monrovia when you go to the polls. Mary Ann Lutz is not your best choice given her track record on this issue.
