Norooz, the Iranian New Year which is the beginning of the spring in harmony with the rebirth of nature will occur at 3:45: 11 pm on Friday March 20th, 2015 (PST).
Farhang Foundation, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), hosts its seventh annual Nowruz (Iranian New Year) festival at the museum. Celebrate the arrival of spring with a full day of activities taking place throughout LACMA’s campus, including live performances, music, storytelling for children, a traditional Nowruz display known as Haft Sîn, and Persian-inspired dishes by Rui Wang, chef at the Patina Group at LACMA. The event will feature a traditional Iranian costume parade, in which individuals of all ages are invited to participate. WHEN: Sunday, March 22, 2015 11:30 am–5 pm Haft Sîn Display (Los Angeles Times Central Court) 11:30 am–4 pm Children’s Puppet Show by Vida Ghahremani (Director’s Roundtable Garden) Noon–4 pm Saaz o Dohol Musicians and Traditional Persian Dancers (throughout campus) Noon–5 pm Screening of Top Six Short Films (Brown Auditorium) View the top six nominated films of the 2015 Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival.

According to Dr. Nazee Rofagha, who has led the last 8 years of celebrations in Pasadena, “The mission of Norooz in Pasadena is to familiarize non-Iranian communities of Pasadena and the greater San Gabriel Valley with the rich, peaceful and ancient culture of Iran.” While she is not involved in an event this year we recommend one of the best celebrations on Sunday will be at LACMA Sunday.

After eight years of successful celebration of Norooz in Pasadena, Dr. Rofagha says…” time has come to introduce our city to other traditional pre-Islamic Iranian festivals which are being celebrated in Iran and by persons of Iranian stock and neighboring countries. After Norooz which is the most important celebration, there are about twenty other Iranian festivals which we plan to bring to the San Gabriel Valley according to their importance.”
The exact date of this celebration(s) will be announced at a later date.
