Monrovia faced off against San Dieguito this Tuesday for their first soccer CIF State Tournament match. The Wildcats emerged victorious, scoring the only goal of the match and winning 1-0.
The goal came in the 29th minute when Alredo Maciel (#8) took a direct kick from about 40 yards out. The ball was kicked towards Monrovia’s leading scorer, Chris Wong (#10), who headed the ball not once but twice towards the goal. With a ricochet off the cross bar, Alfredo Maciel found the ball in front of his feet and with a quick reaction kick, the ball hit the back of the net giving the Wildcats their winning lead.
Monrovia’s next match is Thursday, March 13th at 4 p.m. against Cathedral High School, who is the number one seed. Location: Cathedral High.
