Dear Editor: Why is 2015 Rose Queen Not Cover Girl?

I received [a copy of] Pasadena Star News -12-28-2014…with the Pasadena Rose Parade Magazine 2015 and much to my dismay Rose Queen Madison Triplett was not on the cover. This is a clear departure from the previous two years where the Queen is prominently featured on the front cover of the magazine.
One of the things that I feel deeply about is that everyone is treated fairly and with respect. Rose Queen Triplett represents the best in all young women. I had the opportunity to hear this intelligent young lady speak and was quite impressed with how poised and articulate she was. Queen Triplett is a quality product of PUSD (Marshall High School) and our community and we are absolutely proud of her accomplishments. How much more pleasing and inspirational to the community to have seen Queen Triplett grace the cover of Pasadena Rose Parade Magazine?
The current cover of the magazine does not reflect the diverse community we are. Nor does it convey the kind of ambassadorial representation as a lovely photo of our Queen would have presented to the world. Moreover, a kind of precedent has been established as the previous four editions of the annual publication prominently displayed a photo of the reigning Queen. One has to ponder the thought of why after four years a photo of the Queen was omitted from the cover? A reasonable explanation would be greatly appreciated.
The Pasadena Star News also carried an article about Joan Williams. Miss Williams was named Miss Crown City almost 60 years ago and was not permitted to ride in the Rose Parade. Thanks to Mayor Bogaard for reaching out to Williams and helping to secure a float for her to ride on in the 2015 Parade.
