A former Irwindale Police Department officer was sentenced today to two years, eight months in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after he earlier admitted that he sexually molested a 14-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Daniel Camerano, 28, was remanded into custody to begin his sentence.
Deputy District Attorney Renee Chang with the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case. Camerano, who was an advisor to the department’s Explorer Program, began a sexual relationship with the 14-year-old girl between May 2009 and December 2010. The eight-year veteran also admitted sending sexually suggestive text messages to a 17-year-old female Explorer in November 2012.
Camerano, who resigned from the Irwindale Police Department in June 2014, pleaded no contest in December to three felony counts, including using a minor for sex acts, oral copulation of a person under 16 and contact with minor for sexual offense.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
