Dr. Edward Wong, to speak on the CURIOSITY ROVER and its space exploration missions to Mars. Feb. 7th at The Museum Education Center, 3:00 p.m.

Dr. Edward Wong to speak on: CURIOSITY ROVER TO MARS AND SPACE EXPLORATION MISSIONS, Sunday, February 8th at 3:00 p.m.

A SPECIAL presentation by the Arcadia Museum Foundation, the talk will be held in their new Education Center (directly behind the community center) 382 Huntington Drive, Arcadia. This will be the first lecture in the Spring Lecture Hall. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Tickets are available at the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage, next to the Education Center.

Dr. Edward Wong is a Principal Engineer and Technical Group Leader at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. He was the technical manager for the design of guidance and control flight algorithm software for the Mars Curiosity Mission. He has received NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal, NASA Space Act Award, and other NASA Group Achievement Awards. His paper on the Curiosity Landing, written with his coauthors, was awarded the “best paper in 2013” in an internationally known aerospace conference. Edward has lived in Arcadia since 1993. He is past President of the Arcadia Chinese Association. He is a board member of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce and chaired its Asian Business Night committee. He was also selected by the Arcadia City Council to be a member of the Gold Line Grade Separation Bond Citizen Oversight Committee.

The Relativity of Einstein

The Incomparable Duffy Hudson will once again entertain, delight and inform us with his appearance as the brilliant Albert Einstein. Duffy Hudson’s one-man show portraying the genius and personality of Albert Einstein will take place Tuesday, February 10th, 7:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Public Library.

Admission will be free to members of the Friends of the Arcadia Public Library. Tickets will cost
$10.00 for non-members. Best idea is to join the Friends on site the night of the performance for a $10 membership fee; you will gain admission to the show and share the pleasure of being a member and supporting the Library.

WINE RECEPTION TO HONOR TERRY MILLER

Well-known photojournalist will greet guests and answer questions following the opening of his exhibit of 30 Years of Catching the Human Spirit on Film.
The Exhibit will open January 17th and run until March 14th. The Reception will be held at the opening January 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage, located directly behind the Community Center.

Colorectal Cancer is a Preventable Disease

Arcadia Senior Services in partnership with Methodist Hospital is presenting a free informative health lecture. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. The lecture will take place at the Arcadia Community Center, 365 Campus Drive. Dr. Ana Maria Garza, a colorectal cancer specialist is the guest speaker. Colorectal cancer is a very preventable disease. Many people do not know that they are at risk of developing this type of cancer. Dr. Garza will provide you with the information you need to know about colorectal cancer screening, prevention and treatment that may potentially save you or your loved one’s life. This presentation is for individuals age 50 and over.

 

Temple City Announces STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS—Jan. 26th

The City of Temple City invites community members to the annual State of the City Address on Monday, Jan. 26th at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers (5928 Kauffman Avenue). Mayor Carl Blum will update audiences on City Halls recent progress as well as upcoming plans for the future.
Highlights from the past several years have included adoption of a strategic plan, completion of the Rosemead Boulevard Safety Enhancements and Beautification Project, ongoing citizen engagement efforts, as well as the launch of the new City website.

One of the anticipated media events is the Empty House Party ( invitation only) January 23rd. This will unveil the Pasadena Showcase House of Design for 2015. President Katherine Wakins will head the greeting hosts.

Arcadia Host Lions Club Board members and spouses. On December 11th, the Club held their Annual Children’s Christmas Party at Villa Catrina Mexican Restaurant, where 38 children from the Arcadia Health Council were provided lunch, songs, a magic show, and a very special visit from Santa Claus bearing gifts for every child.
