Golf Cart Driver – Pulled over on 210 Freeway New Year’s Night – Lands in the Hole
By Terry Miller
A fearless New Year’s football fan was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he was spotted on the 210 Freeway in Pasadena in a stolen Rose Bowl golf cart, according to CHP reports.
CHP’s Altadena unit received a call of a golf cart driving on the I-210 freeway eastbound from Lake Ave. Thursday. A CHP unit responded and a 911 call reported the golf cart exited the freeway at Hill St. CHP unit located the golf cart on Corson St. just west of Hill St. They contacted the driver who was the sole occupant.
19 Year old Andrew Aldridge, from Dana Point was arrested at the scene charged with 23152(A) VC
The golf cart had Rose Bowl stickers on the side of it. The driver admitted to taking the golf cart from the Rose Bowl. A DUI investigation was conducted and the driver was arrested for DUI. The driver was booked at Pasadena PD without incident.
The man, an apparent avid golfer as well as football fanatic, decided he’d had enough rounds and was perhaps feeling a bit rough, so he opted to the fairway, took a fat shot at getting out of the Bowl in style.
The man had apparently left the Rose Bowl, saw the empty cart and decided to have a little fun while attempting to get to his real car on the other side of Pasadena.
One of our senior writers, Susan Motander had this to add to our dispatch:
On New Year’s Evening, an alert motorist notified the Altadena CHP station of a golf cart “putting” down the 210 Freeway. The cart had exited the freeway at Hill Street, and a search of the area resulted in the arrest of the sole occupant of the cart on a charge of 23152(a) of the Vehicle Code.
Andrew Aldridge, 19, was arrested at the scene. The golf cart had been stolen from the Rose Bowl after the game. Apparently the young man didn’t like the lay of his own vehicle, too far from the green of the bowl and availed himself of the use of the cart to reach his own car. It seems it was just par for the course of a New Year Day in Pasadena. Sometimes you soar like an eagle, some days you just bogie the hole.
