In an interesting turn of events for Monrovia, longtime councilmember Tom Adams has thrown his hat into the ring hoping to oust Mayor Lutz with whom Adams has often vehemently disagreed.

Adams sent out a letter Dec 30 stating: “Six years ago I decided to not run for Mayor as I felt that it would be bad for Monrovia to pit friends against friends and it would be best to see if we could ‘all get along’. Having lived here most of my life I can tell you that for most of my life Monrovia has been improving and has been the place that others wanted to be like. It saddens me to say that this is no longer the case and for the past six years I have seen Monrovia going backwards.

“During the past 3 Mayoral Terms we have had a rotation of seven different sets of hands on the wheel that guides Monrovia. Many of these have been part time Managers and although I voted against any of the part time management arrangements I think we can all agree that Monrovia needs to be run on a full time basis, we all deserve better, our staff deserves better.

“As I drive around town Monrovia looks worse that it has in years, our parks, streets and other infrastructure are in dire condition and we must do something to reverse this.

“To that end, I am running for Mayor in the election that will take place in April. I will not make anyone uncomfortable in asking for their support as I recognize that many of us have mutual friends. I do this for Monrovia because I do believe that Monrovia must come first.” – Tom Adams
