Mrs. Joanne Montgomery, Citrus Community College District governing board member, was installed as president of the Citrus College Board of Trustees during the board’s annual reorganization meeting on December 2, 2014.
Mrs. Montgomery represents the city of Monrovia and portions of Bradbury and Duarte. She was appointed to the board of trustees in 1998 to fill a vacancy and was elected to the board in 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011.
“I am grateful for Trustee Montgomery’s leadership and commitment to Citrus College’s mission,” said Superintendent/President Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D. “Her contributions as an educator and community leader have greatly contributed to Citrus College’s status as a nationally recognized institution of higher education.”
A longtime Monrovia resident and educator, Mrs. Montgomery was an elementary school teacher for the Monrovia Unified School District for 32 years. She worked with the district’s gifted and talented education program and was named Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Montgomery holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University. She also completed postgraduate work at the University of Southern California; University of California, Los Angeles; Pepperdine University; and the University of La Verne.
“As Citrus College observes its Centennial year, it is a privilege to serve as the board president,” stated Mrs. Montgomery. “For 100 years, the college has served as an exemplary model of academic excellence, while providing opportunities for thousands of students to receive a college education and enter the workforce.”
Mrs. Montgomery’s extensive service to the community earned her the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce’s Dick Lord Award in 2003. She is a member of the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce Business Education and Community Outreach Network (BEACON), the Duarte Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and represents the Board of Trustees on the Citrus College Foundation Board.
Citrus College Board of Trustees members also installed during the annual reorganization meeting were Mrs. Susan M. Keith, of Claremont, vice president; Dr. Barbara R. Dickerson, of Azusa, clerk/secretary; Dr. Edward C. Ortell, of Duarte, member; and Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen, of Glendora, member.
