Dear Editor: Don’t eat turkey
Editor:
On Thanksgiving most Americans eat turkey. I used to until I found out how much suffering they endure being transported in crowded conditions to slaughterhouses and then enduring unnecessary abuse at the slaughterhouses! Poultry are not covered by the so-called Human Slaughter Act which actually doesn’t help cows and pigs that much, but it’s better than nothing.
Turkeys are ridiculed and thrown against a bar or wall and their spines have been exposed. This is criminal. The workers where shown doing this in an undercover video last year at a major turkey killing plant (slaughterhouse). I think it was Butterball.
Can’t we think about what happens to these poor animals – they suffer fear and pain and should be protected. Aside from the humane issue, any nutritionist will tell you that meat is carcinogenic.
