NCRF’s Inaugural Latino College Expo Comes to Los Angeles Convention Center December 13
“Latino Students meet one-on-one with Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI)”
The National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) presents the 1st Latino College Expo (LCE), Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California 90015. The LCE will provide information and resources to help middle school, high school, and college students with an opportunity to meet one-on-one with Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), public/private universities and community colleges. They will be exposed to numerous educational opportunities specifically available to students of Hispanic descent. Over the past few years, it has been reported that Hispanic college enrollment rates among high school graduates has surpassed that of white student enrollment. For 16-years, the NCRF has helped underserved and underrepresented students with access to attending and finding financial resources to pay for college.
Student attendees of NCRF’s Inaugural Latino College Expo will gain insight to educational resources, scholarship opportunities, financial aid, booming majors and hot careers. Financial Aid Specialists will be on hand to share information, about the “Dream Act,” also known as the Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, which allows some undocumented students to apply for and receive state-based financial aid and institutional scholarships. Latino students can present their high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores to college recruiters to be considered for on-the-spot acceptance, scholarship awards, and have their application fees waived.
This Latino College Expo hosted by NCRF, the creators of the Annual Black College Expo will offer seminars on booming majors, hot careers and how to get into and find money for college. Founder, Theresa Price who launched the first NCRF College Expo sixteen years ago, says, “America’s youth of all backgrounds need to be educated to create better communities and a better America. There are so many resources for Latino students to help them be successful, that we want to offer a platform to do just that by hosting a Latino College Expo.”
Students have the opportunity to win $3,000.00 in scholarships by entering the NCRF “Win Dollars for College.” Written essays on “Why is a College Education Important to Me,” are currently being accepted until the deadline on December 1st. In keeping with the NCRF motto…”Connecting Students to College, Careers & Beyond,” college students will be able to meet corporations that are looking to expand diversity and introduce students to their specific companies and career fields. This educational event will include a fun-filled day with over (50) college and university recruiters and educational resources on-hand to speak to students and a scholarship presentation with celebrity guest host and performers.
Tickets are $8.00 per person (pp) or $6.00pp (online) and $5.00pp (groups of 15 or more) are also available. For more information, visit our website at info@thecollegeexpo.org or call NCRF corporate office at 909-396-0151.
