LA based painter Nate Frizzell has plenty of moody brush strokes pointed toward the opening of his first solo exhibit, “Dark Was the Night” at Corey Helford Gallery this Saturday, November 15th from 7-10pm. The title is taken from the popular Blues tune of the 1920s, but the new painter’s modern Californian influences are very apparent in the work that encompasses it, i.e beautiful renderings of everyday humans in emotional, surreal landscapes living in today’s  modern world. “I try to do something a little different with every show,” says Frizzell about his new works. “I’m playing with the use of black and negative space, seeing how far I can push myself to mute my color palette and still put a little life into the paintings.” After all, black is the new black.
