The inaugural Fall Harvest Festival will place on Sunday, November 9, from 10:00am until 2:00pm in Old Pasadena. In addition to the weekly certified farmers’ market on Holly Street, this free family-friendly festival includes a seven-piece bluegrass band, a pie baking contest with cash prizes, square dancing lessons, country style food, and much more. “Mr. Pasadena” Michael Calderon will MC the event!
The Old Pasadena Farmers Market offers free kids’ activities every week. In keeping with the harvest festival theme, at 10:30am Sarah Seelinger of Farm Style Cooking for Kids will lead kids on how to churn butter and press apples. There will also be fun “old-timey” activities every 45 minutes, such as an apple bobbing contest, three legged race, egg tossing, and corn shucking contests. Prizes include $25 in gift items from the market.
Amateur bakers of all ages are invited to have their tastiest pies judged at the Pie Baking Contest. Entries will be accepted until 11:00am at the Market Manager’s Booth. All participants will receive our popular canvas market tote bag with logo designed by renowned Pasadena illustrator Paul Rogers. For details, please download the contest rules at http://www.oldpasdena.org/farmersmarket/Pie_Baking_Contest_Rules.pdf. Prizes will be awarded.
Also, at 11:00am, enjoy the lively Americana sounds of Sawtooth Bluegrass Band, a seasoned seven-piece group featuring mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, banjo, and dobro.
At 1:00pm, Dale Hoppers, professional line and square dancing teacher and caller, will lead attendees in some rousing square dancing.
All of the events are free and everyone is welcome to join in.
