Local Author to Speak Veteran’s Day Weekend

Local author Susan S. Rosvall will speak about her new book Silence Is Broken in a way that both entertains and informs the audience on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Public Library. Her book is an historical novel based on her brother’s one-year deployment to Vietnam in 1966. At the end of the slideshow and talk, the author will be available for book purchases and book signing.
“Thematically, Silence Is Broken goes beyond the plot-driven story of a soldier. It’s a bout self-reliance and personal courage. It’s about metamorphic qualities of war and the healing power of empathy. At the broadest and most universal level, it’s about informed citizenship and the just use of deadly force.” Excerpt from the website http://www.silenceisbrokenthenovel.com/book.php
It is more than just a story about one soldier’s experience in Vietnam, but of the Civil Rights Movement and how its influence played out during this time. With the upcoming fiftieth anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the Civil Rights Movement, this should be a thought-provoking and informative talk that you won’t want to miss.
Since 1998, Susan S. Rosvall has taught English Composition at California State University, Los Angeles. Over the past several years she developed a theme-based course on just war theory with an emphasis on jus ad bellum, the just causes or motives for war. Recently, she has traveled to Vietnam and the
American South, where she has researched the Vietnam Conflict and the American Civil Rights Movement, respectively.
Ms. Rosvall received a B.A. in English from the University of California at Los Angeles, an M.S. in Education from the University of Southern California, and an M.A. in TESOL (linguistics) from California State University, Los Angeles.
