Woodcraft Rangers hold its NVISION regional basketball tournament
On Saturday morning, October 11, over 150 NVISION youth descended upon Rosemead Park in the city of Rosemead from the Garvey School District and the East Whittier District for a regional basketball tournament. It became a day of competition for every child participating in the Woodcraft Rangers NVISION programs. There was a vast presence of parents, school administrators and people from the community taking in the event. Boys and girls from elementary and middle schools took part in a regional basketball competition held by Woodcraft in preparation for the agency-wide tournament that will be held on October 25th in Los Angeles at John Liecthy Middle School that will hold over 450 youth participants.
More than 60 schools are served by Woodcraft Rangers and over 15 of those are located in the Garvey School District and the East Whittier School District. Their after school programs engage the youth through various sports, performing and visual arts, and unique health and nutrition clubs. Events like this allow the community to witness how Woodcraft Rangers supports youth development. A student athlete participating in the event from Monterrey Vista Elementary said, “Woodcraft Rangers’ NVISION events are cool. Especially when everyone from all the different schools gets together.”
CEO Chris Johnson adds, “It is always an enjoyment to see our staff and youth prepare for a common goal as they have fun while in the process of learning.” There are many kids that are not able to afford sports programs, so Woodcraft Rangers gives opportunities to those kids to participate at no cost. As they participate in their everyday clubs, they learn how to problem solve and work as a team on a daily basis.
Throughout the greater Los Angeles area, Woodcraft Rangers has served over 1.1 million youth through its unique after school clubs customized to fit the youth’s interests. Their mission is to enhance what the youth do during the school day, build confidence, and the ability to be more active learners. Woodcraft Rangers’ goal is to engage and inspire the youth they serve.
