On Monday, October 6, 2014, President Brian Moriguchi and members of the Professional Peace Officers Association, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Assistant Sheriff Richard Barrantes, Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Detective Tim Marcia and family members of Victim Calvin Gray held a press conference offering a reward for the murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Officer Calvin Eugene Gray.
The Professional Peace Officers Association is offering a $20,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this murder. The County Board of Supervisors is also offering an additional $10,000 reward. LAPD Homicide detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining any information leading to the senseless murder of Calvin Gray.
On Tuesday, July 29, 2014, 33-year-old Sheriff’s Department Security Officer Calvin Gray was shot to death while off duty dropping off his son in the 1000 block of West 76th Street, Los Angeles.
Sheriff’s Security Officer Calvin Eugene Gray was hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on October 10, 2010. He graduated with Class 23 as a Sheriff’s Security Officer from the Sheriff’s Academy on November 21, 2010. Calvin was assigned to County Services Bureau. His first assignment within the Bureau was providing security at the Maravilla Senior Center in the City of Los Angeles. He worked at the Center for approximately two years before being assigned to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in the un-incorporated area of Torrance.
During his time at Harbor-UCLA, Calvin displayed a high degree of personal initiative. His ability to adapt and provide safety and security within the complex healthcare environment made him stand out among his peers.
More than just a member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Calvin was the youngest son born to Margaret and Bernard Gray. He leaves behind four children and a very large family including four sisters and twelve brothers.
