The Pasadena Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers 28th Annual Kitchen & Home Tour Sunday, October 19, 9:30am — 4:30pm

By Lois Mahar, ASID

We at ASID have been producing this tour for so many years that we receive phone calls in the middle of the year asking about the tour and its scheduled date. This Kitchen Tour has been extremely successful not only for the chapter but for the selected designers and the volunteer committee who put it all together. It takes nine months to bring this amazing tour to the public. Yes; the curtain goes up on Sunday, October 19th at 9:30AM, and everything will be in place and ready to go.
You, the public, wanted more, so we gave you more…we decided to showcase entire homes and become a larger tour. For many years our tour provided the public with large homes, 3,000 to 4,000 square feet homes, and even mansions larger than 10,000 square feet. The boutiques for you to shop at got bigger and people spent more money. Our own industry partners featured products new on the market for the public to see and touch.
This year, our 28th, we continue the process of changing and improving the tour. Our Selection Committee chose four beautiful small homes for this year’s tour. Each is less than 2,000 square feet, charming, modern, European, and smashingly colorful. People can relate to these small spaces because that’s what most people live in. You will discover how a designer can make a room look larger or a dark space brighter. Each of the four kitchens is amazing and interesting, and all different sizes and shapes. A seminar on “How to Create a Great Kitchen on a Reasonable Budget” will be presented at the Rose Bowl home at 11:30am and repeated at 2:30pm the day of the tour. You will find inspiration as you learn some of the tricks of the trade.
One of the Pasadena homes on the tour, the European bungalow, will feature an Artisan Bazaar where you can purchase very unique and interesting items. After shopping in the Bazaar you will come upon our Designer Resource displays with demonstrations of how some products work or are built, along with drawings that will inspire you to go home, move things around, and change your life in your home at no costs to you!
On the day of the tour, do take the scenic route from Pasadena to La Canada—we have made arrangements for a 10% discount on your lunch at Brookside Golf Club and also at The Dish restaurant. Take time out of your day to stop and have a bite to eat so that you are newly energized to continue looking at these wonderful and exciting “Small Homes.”
In supporting us, you also support charity. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to HILLSIDES this year. HILLSIDES is a premier provider dedicated to improving the overall well-being and functioning of vulnerable children, youth and their families.
Thank you for spending your day with us; we just know you will enjoy this year’s ASID KITCHEN & HOME TOUR and be part of its success.
