Letter to the Editor – “We Support Our Veterans”…Oh, Really?
Dear Editor:
Everyone “loves” Veterans–or at least everyone says they do! You hear this phrase all the time, especially from our politicians.
If our government officials really do love our Veterans, then why is our government allowing the Mexican Government to continue to commit ugly atrocities against a U.S. combat Veteran–one who suffers from PTSD–Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome?
U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi illegally entered Mexico by error as he traveled down an incompetently-signed Mexican Road. As a result, for over 180 days, he has been subjected to brutal, inhumane treatment by Mexican prison guards in a squalid Mexican jail. He has been beaten, handcuffed in a spread-eagled position to his bed, threatened with rape, and God knows what other ugliness he has suffered and will continue to suffer.
Question?
What has been done on his behalf by our President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry, Senators Boxer and Feinstein; Congresswomen Napolitano and Chu?
Absolutely NOTHING! Their silence is “deafening.”
Yet, they repeatedly mouth this phrase, “We support our nation’s veterans.” They increase their chant shortly before election time comes around, and especially at Memorial Day or Veterans’ Day Ceremonies…
So, please, the next time you hear a politician mouth the hackneyed phrase, “I support our Veterans” just ask yourself, “Do they really mean it?…or is it just another politician pandering for your vote?”
