Author/professor Harriet Edquist discusses how the Australian Arts and Crafts movement set the stage for Modernism in Australia on September 30, 2014.
The popular Sidney D. Gamble Lecture Series, now in its 16th year, offers thought-provoking lectures and introduces the public to prominent experts, author and historians who have special insight into, not just the Arts and Crafts Movement, but the nature of bringing architecture and art into daily living.
Kicking off the 2014-2015 lecture series is a discussion on the Arts and Crafts Movement in Australia by Harriet Edquist, a professor of Architectural History and Director of the Design Archives at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. Dr. Edquist will explore how the architectural style was influenced by similar movements around the world, especially noting the resonance between the California bungalow and Australia’s version of that classical style.
On Tuesday September 30, 2014 at 7 p.m.
At Neighborhood Church, 301 N. Orange Grove, Pasadena CA
$30 public, $25 FOGH members. Tickets at www.gamblehouse.org.
