On behalf of the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF), 2013/2014 SEF President, Lori Husein, along with 2014/2015 SEF President, Dr. Chasity Jennings Nunez, presented a check to the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) in the amount of $150,000 to Superintendent Dr. David Yoshihara and School Board President, Ken Tcheng at the August 26th meeting of the Governing Board. The Foundation’s successful 2013/2014 “Fund the Gap” campaign will fund a variety of instructional and enrichment programs at all 8 schools in the district for the 2014/2015 academic year. These programs include elementary music and visual arts instruction, middle school drama, after school staffing at Jefferson Middle School and Gabrielino High School, college counseling, AVID, mock trial, speech and debate, science and FBLA.
The foundation was able to provide these funds with the help of many generous donors in the community, including families, district employees, community members and local businesses. This year a gift in the amount of $28,000 was received from the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hilton Hotel. The Hilton Hotel continues to be a major sponsor of education in the community. A grant from the Pasadena Showcase House of Design was received in support of K-3 Music programming.
During a powerful presentation, Past President, Lori Husein stated, “As you are aware, SEF is the only fundraising organization that raises funds for all eight schools and we serve all students in the SGUSD. Ergo our motto: “Eight Schools, Every Student, One Community…SEF does make a difference”.
The San Gabriel Educational Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is the primary fundraising partner for the San Gabriel Unified School District.
