The 10th annual “Action on Film Festival” is gearing up for what promises to be its most action packed year yet, showcasing nearly 500 projects both from the US and countries around the world. And don’t let the name fool you into thinking this is a yearly gathering of Steven Seagal fans getting their fill of non-stop action flicks, the “Action on Film Festival” is about the appreciation of action captured in all film genres and the people behind the camera taking action to get them made.

In fact, since Del Weston initially established it as a venue to showcase unseen talent in 2004, the AOF has become one of the fastest growing festivals in the country and it has evolved into many action-making entities of its own. In addition to being renowned for its quality selection of films and videos, the festival has also become infamous for it’s sold out black tie galas attracting more celebrities into the mix each year. With an impressive list of past guests that include D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix, John Savage and Tom Sizemore, each year the festival awards its biggest honors to new talent with over $100,000 given out in cash and gifts. In 2011, it also became one of the only International festivals to have its own television show featuring the work of top AOF Filmmakers and celebrity guests.

But perhaps most important, is that the festival’s success has helped to realize its initial vision of shining the spotlight on deserving new talent and helping aspiring writers and filmmakers take action to further their careers. This year the festival directors are especially excited about the “brilliant” and “powerful” selection of films, videos, documentaries, writers and art projects that will be featured during the week of August 22-30th. One film that promises to be a must-see is “Instance,” starring Panta Mosleh who plays a cop suffering PTSD. Festival director Del Weston says that Panta’s breakthrough performance is a forced to be reckoned with and this film will definitely be putting her on the map.

Every year the AOF also becomes an industry resource pool within itself, offering exclusive workshops for artists to learn the tools of their tumultuous trade – from the real industry players who actually know the game. One of the highlights this year is the PR for Filmmakers workshop led by Anthony Mora, who is president and CEO of Burbank-based Mora Communications, Inc. and author of two books on marketing and PR, “The Alchemy of Success” and “Spin to Win.” Anthony is also a novelist and a playwright. Understanding the artist’s perspective, has led him to represent those in the creative fields, including authors, painters, filmmakers and musicians.

PR for Filmmakers is a unique workshop designed specifically for producers, directors and filmmakers. Focusing on how to effectively promote and market your films, the workshop will cover a number of topics including how to develop stories and pitch ideas, how to write a press release, how to build a media list, how to effectively pitch the media, the difference between the trades and mainstream media pitches, and how to meld your traditional media and social media outreach.

The workshop is designed to help filmmakers build their brand and create a buzz via the media to reach their audience, influencers, investors, distributors and other appropriate opportunities. At the end of the workshop, filmmakers who wish to participate will be allowed to give a 30-second pitch. If your pitch is chosen as the most effective (a subjective call by Anthony), you will win a free 90-minute consultation with Anthony Mora, along with a press release, pitch and targeted media list.

The PR for Filmmakers Workshop will be held in Monrovia at the Krikorian Premier Theaters in the filmmaker It runs 11:00 Am -1:00 PM. The Workshop is free for AOF 2014 Accepted Filmmakers and Writers. There is a $25.00 charge for all others
