Monrovia’s Lyla Keller, 8, heading to Junior Olympics Nationals in Texas
Lyla Keller celebrated her 8th birthday last month and just finished 2nd grade at Mayflower School in Monrovia. Next week she will be representing Monrovia and the Arcadia Dragons track team in the USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships in Houston Texas. Lyla stepped onto a track for the first time only 5 months ago and now she will be competing in the two most recognized events (100M Dash & 200M Dash) at the National Junior Olympics. Lyla will have her Mom, Dad and baby brother Louie rooting her on as her Track & Field journey continues.
Keller has been training with Coach Randy Ludwig and their track team Arcadia Dragons since March 2014 for 3 days per week and for the last 2 months (June and July) she has been training at Beverly Hills High School with two time Olympic athlete Nabi Fofanah. She also does core exercises every day for 20 minutes. Her 3 favorite track & field events are Long Jump, 100m and 200m.
Her ambitions; Lyla’s favorite track & field star/athlete is Flo Jo! Florence Griffith Joyner. She wants to be like her and compete in the Olympics and represent the USA. She also is an avid swimmer (goes to Anderson Summer Camp at Rose Bowl Aquatics center last 3 years) and she also loves reading books to her brother and watching movies and TV shows. Her favorite shows are Full House and Wizards of Waverly Place! Her favorite movie is Frozen.
