By Terry Miller
The communities of San Marino, San Gabriel and South Pasadena open their hearts and wallets on Monday evening in those three cities to help raise scholarship funds for Arcadia Firefighter Mike Herdman’s young daughter. Herdman was found dead following a fall in the wilderness about 2 weeks ago.
35 Firefighters from the Firefighters’ Association for these three cities decided do a two-hour fundraiser Monday and held out their helmets to the community asking to help a fellow firefighter’s family in time of crisis, San Marino Fire Chief Jim Frawley told Beacon Media.
“I didn’t do much except clear the way bureaucratically. It was the 35 firefighters who took it upon themselves to do this…” Chief Frawley said.
Noting the tragic loss of Arcadia Firefighter Herdman touched a lot of peoples’ lives, Chief Frawley said his firefighters and the community in general did a tremendous job in helping out Herdman’s family during this critical time. A memorial service for Mike Herdman is slated for Wednesday morning in Aracdia
