One man dead, one arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit through Arcadia and Temple City

One man dead, one arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit through Arcadia and Temple City

Arcadia Police Officers located a stolen vehicle occupied with two males in the area of Workman Avenue and Baldwin Avenue on Monday morning. Arcadia officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Freer Street, but the suspect drive failed to yield to police, and a pursuit ensued .
The suspect continued to flee westbound on Lower Azusa Road into the City of Temple City. The suspect drove through a red signal light at the intersection of Lower Azusa Road and Arden Drive, and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Arden Drive. The suspect vehicle sustained major damage, with the passenger pronounced dead at the scene by LA County Fire Department personnel. The suspect driver sustained what appeared to be minor injuries, and was taken into custody at the scene of the collision without further incident.
The passenger’s identity is being withheld at this time, pending identification by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and next of kin notification.
The suspect vehicle reached an estimated top speed of 70mph at one point in the pursuit, but it was estimated to be travelling at approximately 50-60mph at the time of the collision.
The suspect driver of the vehicle was identified as:
Richard John Villareal, male, Hispanic, 28 years-old, and a resident of Arcadia.
This case is currently being investigated by Arcadia Police Detectives, in conjunction with investigators from the LASD – Temple Station.
