Nancy Urbach crowned Doo Dah Queen 2014

And now, as we say, for something completely different: The Doo Dah Parade fun is just getting underway:
On Sunday, during the late afternoon into early evening hours, the delightful Belly dancer Nancy Urbach was named the Queen of the 2014 Pasadena Doo Dah parade after a wild, lengthy and crazy Doo Dah Queen tryout session which is the annual precursor, a warm-up if you will to the big party, the Doo Dah Parade. Moments after the announcement, one reveler yelled “ it is about time !” Referring, of course to Ms. Urbach’s perennial tryouts for the coveted title for the past 12 years.

Doo Dah official, the lovely and talented Patty Hurley, took her seat at the Judging tables ( albeit with a cast for a broken ankle – get well soon Paddy) along with Tom Coston and a host of Dubious Achievement Award recipients who were bribed with beer and other sundries to cast a vote any which way. It was all in good fun.
The parade, now in its 37th year, held the ‘auditions’ at the American Legion Hall with Snotty Scotty and the Hankies as well as Horses on Astroturf playing for the faithful followers of the ‘twisted sister of the Rose Parade’

“It’s incredible. A dream come true.” said Urbach, now crowned Queen Nancy, has been auditioning for the glamerous role since 2002.
Altadena resident Clara “Freedom 911” Long was named first runner-up. Second runner-up was the ever-popular “Count Smokula.”
