Give your kids something to sing about this summer!
June 24-August 16
Pasadena Conservatory of Music
Classes in our eight-week Young Musicians summer session classes are filling up quickly, but there’s still time to sign up! Whether your child is ready to learn music fundamentals in one of our popular core classes, or your family wants to participate in one of our workshops–folk jam, jazz, recorder, pajama story time–PCM is a great place for kids to spend their summer days.
OFFERINGS
This summer, we are pleased to offer a continuation of our Young Musicians classes for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The traditional Core Classes, for our youngest students and their parents or caregivers, will feature instruments, movement, stories, and songs with a fun summer theme. Join us for a playful music-making experience!
We are also offering Family Workshops–new programs for families with school-age children in the late afternoons and evenings. Our teachers will instruct both children and adults; it’s a learning experience for family members to share. Parents and children are invited to practice, dance, play, and perform together.
Just a few classes being offered this summer:
Family Folk Dance (ages 5-12)
Rachael Doudrick Tuesdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Swing your partner! If you can walk, you can folk dance. This class introduces folk-dance basics and encourages family bonding. Parents and children will move together in the spirit of folk tradition for enjoyment and exercise. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. And bring a water bottle; we’ll work up a sweat!
Folk Jam (ages 5-12)
Kim Berry Tuesdays, 6:30-7:15 p.m.
Jam along to great American folk tunes, like those sung by Woody Guthrie, Ella Jenkins, Jean Ritchie, and Pete Seeger. Kids and parents will learn new folk songs each week, with fun activities for children and opportunities for adults to bring along their own instruments and play along.
Summer Jazz (ages 5-7)
Sherry Luchette Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15 p.m.
Jazz cats and kittens are invited to come and swing! Ms. Sherry will teach you where it’s at, as you learn to sing and scat! Learn about jazz greats like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Charlie “Bird” Parker, hear their fantastic music, and play along!
Sing, Dance, and Play! (ages 5-7)
Erin Buschiazzo Thursdays, 4:30-5:15 p.m.
Using funny and wise folk tales from around the world, students and grown-ups will explore Orff instruments and sing! This is a great opportunity to play together creatively and learn some cooperative songs and games. At the end of eight weeks, we’ll stage a short performance for our family and friends!
Play Together: Beginning Recorder for Kids and Grown-ups! (ages 7-12)
Erin Buschiazzo Thursdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Tunes for two (or more) tooters! Parents and kids will learn to play the recorder together, with fun songs and duets, games, and movement. Adults can refresh their music skills and kids get to learn the basics with a built-in practice partner.
B.Y.O.R. (bring your own recorder!).
Pajama Story Time (ages 2-6)
Kim Berry Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:15 p.m
Pairing music with great children’s literature is a specialty of PCM’s Young Musicians program. Rediscover some classics and explore new favorites, as our teacher shares stories and quiet activities for the end of the day. Children may come in their pajamas with a bedtime buddy.
