Holden sends Memorial Day message to constituents “As you prepare for the holiday weekend and time with family and friends, I want to encourage you to think safety first,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “The California Highway Patrol will be out in force beginning Friday and they advise drivers to leave early to allow additional time, don’t drink and drive, and obey the speed limit.” “Enjoy your time celebrating this holiday weekend, just be smart about what you do when the celebration is over,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “Whether you are with your friends or enjoying a celebratory event, designate a sober driver ahead of time, or call a taxi to make sure you get home safely.” Last year, 40 people were killed on California’s highways during the holiday period and 40 percent of those who died were NOT wearing seatbelts. “Of course this holiday is more than just a celebration,” said Holden. “As we observe Memorial Day, each of us should pause and remember those who gave their lives in defense of freedom. Even as we mourn those who have been lost, we must continue to stand-up for the freedoms we take for granted in this great state and nation. Please join me at the following events as we say thank you to the men and women who have served our country.” South Pasadena: 9 a.m. City of South Pasadena Memorial Day Commemoration, War Memorial Building, 435 S. Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena La Verne: 11 a.m. La Verne Veterans Memorial Ceremony, Veteran’s Hall, 1550 Bonita Avenue, La Verne Assemblymember Holden will take part in ceremonies at the La Verne Veterans Memorial which has come to symbolize the sacrifice, honor and courage of our war dead.
