Special Free Concert To Mark Monrovia’s Birthday
.”
May 18 Library Park Benefit for VFW Post 2070 Will Feature 7 Acts
Monrovians are invited to celebrate the community’s 128th birthday in musical style with a free concert on Sunday May 18, starting at 2:30pm near the fountain at Library Park, 321 S. Myrtle Avenue. The first Monrovia Days Music Festival was created by Carol Anne Kaufman, also known as “The Whistling Diva,” in an effort to re-ignite the community’s birthday celebration tradition.
“The birthday parade and carnival were some of the truly special things about Monrovia, and I just couldn’t stand to see that go away,” said Kaufman. “This concert will be a great thing for the community, and hopefully the seed for greater things in the future
Acts that are currently booked include:
The Whistling Diva
Black Heartthrobs
Pamela Clay
Walrus Club (winner of the MHS battle of the band) Frater
Gem City Jazz Cats
Robert Barryman
The festival is sponsored by Kaufman’s Studio C Hair Artistry and Compass Check Consulting Serivces, LLC with proceeds dedicated to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2070. However, Kaufman is still seeking a title sponsor to ensure all costs are covered.
Because it is being put together quickly to fill the void of not having a City Birthday event, a number of details are currently pending the ability to pay for them, Kaufman said. However, it will feature a variety of food trucks, non-profit booths, commercial vendors and activities for the whole family. KGEM TV will also be on hand.
If you or a business would like to sponsor or participate in the festival, call Kaufman at (626) 332-2182. For more information check out Monrovia Days Music Festival on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
