MOHPG Home Tour Delights Visitors

The day was warm, the crowds light but the enthusiasm for the homes on tour was readily apparent as the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group (MOHPG) hosted its 32nd annual Mother’s Day Home Tour on Sunday, May 11, 2014.  Over 550 visitors showed up to view the five homes, the Aztec Hotel, and the Monrovia Historical Museum that were open to the public for six hours, beginning at 10 a.m.  Over 200 volunteers donated their time on a special day to make the event a memorable experience, and the excitement was palpable as tour goers “oohed” and “aahed” upon seeing the interiors of the homes.
Docents were stationed throughout the locations to provide visitors with details of the house’s history and enhance their appreciation of these vintage gems.  Over twenty vintage “horseless carriages” could be seen driving around town or parked in front of the homes that were open for the day.
Besides being a fundraiser for MOHPG, the tour affords the community a chance to brag about the richness and diversity of its architectural heritage.  The tradition of showcasing Monrovia’s building gems has been around since 1983 when the first tour was held.  It is an annual tradition that will continue to demonstrate that the city places a high value upon its history and heritage.
