Santa Anita offers great racing for May

Santa Anita Park’s first-ever Spring Meeting got underway on Friday, as the track presented an eight-race program with a twilight first post time of 3 p.m. The 40-day Spring Meet will feature a number of promotions and events, and the track will offer fans free Infield General Admission and parking through Gate 6 each weekend through closing day, Sunday, June 29.
Gate 6 is located off of Colorado Place on the track’s northern perimeter and fans are encouraged to bring beach chairs and picnic items, including food and beverage (no alcohol or glass containers).
With the exception of opening week and Memorial Day week, Santa Anita will operate on a regular Thursday through Sunday schedule. First post time on all Fridays except Kentucky Oaks Day, May 2, will be at 3 p.m. First post time on all other race days, except Triple Crown days, will be at 1 p.m.

–CAL-RODS CAR SHOW, SUNDAY, MAY 18
Santa Anita’s Infield will be jam-packed with horsepower when the annual Cal-Rods Car Show rolls in with street rods, customs, classics, corvettes and more. Admission to the show is FREE, when entering through the Infield.
–SANTA ANITA UNCORKED WINE EVENT, SATURDAY, JUNE 7
This popular event will be held for the first time on Belmont Stakes Day. Fans 21 and over can enjoy a grand culinary festival featuring fine wines, cuisine sampling from popular local restaurants, an equine themed art show, AND a full day of live and simulcast racing. A $60.00 ticket includes parking, Club House admission, official racing program, wine tasting, cuisine sampling, art exhibit, souvenir wine glass and an excellent seat for live racing. Proceeds from Santa Anita Uncorked benefit the California Equine Management Account (CARMA) and local charities.
–SANTA ANITA IS HANDICAPPING ‘CONTEST CENTRAL’
The Great Race Place will offer a $40.00 Handicapping Contest each weekend with $800.00 in daily prize money. Plus, players can qualify for the finals which offer $6,500 in cash prizes.

–PREAKNESS DAY SANTA ANITA CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, May 17, play in the Preakness Day Santa Anita Challenge. Prizes include $25,000 cash and more than $60,000 contest entry fee prizes. The contest is a $4,000 buy-in ($3,000 bankroll, $1,000 entry fee).
–CLOSING WEEKEND (JUNE 28 & 29) ‘HUNDRED GRANDER’ TOURNAMENT
Prizes include $100,000 and three NHC spots. Entry is limited to the first 50 applicants and six bonus entries from Santa Anita’s March, April and May Santa Anita Handicapping Contests. This contest is a $6,500 buy-in ($5,000 bankroll and $1,500 entry fee, with 100 percent of the entry fees contributed to prizes.)
