Young Musicians Foundation’s (YMF’s) pre-professional Debut Orchestra comes to the Arcadia Performing Arts Center for the first time on Saturday, April 12 for an evening of inspired storytelling through music. Be swept away by Rimsky-Korsakov’s colorful and rhapsodic Scheherazade, a symphonic rendition of the folktales known as the Arabian Nights. Opening the program, Mozart’s effervescent and contagious Overture to The Marriage of Figaro sets just the right tone for anticipating great things to follow – which is fulfilled by the world premiere of Paul Dooley’s Coast of Dreams. Dooley describes this musical tribute to early Los Angeles as a “vibrant tonal tapestry” inspired by “an emotional, cultural and musical exploration of this romantic vision of Southern California.” The composer will also be present at the concert.
The Debut Orchestra is YMF’s flagship program, established in 1955. Young musicians ages 15 to 25 are selected annually following a rigorous audition process. The orchestra is led by Roger Kalia, Music Director and Conductor, now in the second year of his three-year term. Thousands of Debut Orchestra alumni have gone on to become members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and many other orchestras in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
