April 4 to 6 – “Gobble Up Stories,” a collection of short fables written by Caltech Professor Emeritus Oscar Mandel, will be performed at Caltech’s Ramo Auditorium (1200 E. April 5 – Opening reception from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. of Maggie Hazen art at Side Street Projects (730 North Fair Oaks Ave). This is an outdoor exhibit featuring a series of sculptures and kinetic structures surrounding the story of Greek mythological inventor Daedalus.
April 5 – Fun projects for the family including silkscreening, crayon rubbings, and painting at the Pasadena Museum of California Art (495 E. Colorado Blvd) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 adults, $5 seniors and students, free for children under 12.
April 6 – Shumei Arts Council presents the 2014 Clyde Montgomery Concert at 1:30 p.m. at Shumei Hall (2430 E. Colorado Blvd). The first part of the concert features excellent young musicians from the USC Thornton School of Music. In the second half, two Japanese traditional dances will be presented. Free admission. April 10 – Film “Bidder 70” will be screened at 7 p.m. at the Armory Center for the Arts (145 North Raymond Ave). This is the story of a climate activist who served 21 months in prison for posing as a bidder at a government lease auction in Utah land intended for oil and gas development.
