Santa Anita Park to host ‘largest beer tasting’ contest Saturday – Guinness world record attempt
Santa Anita Park, with the help of a large number of its fans, will attempt to etch its name in the Guinness Book of World Records as it hosts its first-ever “Largest Beer Tasting” event at 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 22, on the track’s Grandstand apron.
The record endeavor, which will be staged in an enclosed area on the track’s Grandstand apron, will be conducted with the help of a certified cicerone from Stone Brewing Company. Santa Anita is hoping to attract approximately 1,000 beer-tasting participants, which would far exceed the existing Guinness World Record of 322, which is held by the English-based Oast House.
“We are always looking for new ways to engage fans and this is a great example,” said Katie Abbott, Director of Interactive Media at Santa Anita Park. “This event is going to be a great for us to allow new and existing fans to have fun and be a part of Santa Anita history.”
Each participant will be issued a numbered wrist band and will receive a blind-tasting of three complimentary beers. The results of the event will be documented through video and photo review and be verified by Guinness World Record officials.
“Although our hope is to shatter the current world record, our main goal is to host an out-of-the-box event where all of our guests have an unforgettable experience,” said Nate Newby, Santa Anita Vice President of Marketing. “This is uncharted territory for us, but we think it’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone.”
