Holiday Party for Area Senior Citizens in Monrovia Saturday Dec 21
Holiday Party for Area Senior Citizens
Monrovia, CA
Seniors 60 and over will be treated to a Holiday Dinner Party in their honor on Saturday, December 21 beginning at 12 noon at the Monrovia Community Center, 119 W Palm Ave. Local area businesses and individuals in partnership with Monrovia Providers Group and the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce have raised several hundred dollars, secured donations of 10 plump turkeys (as well as finding places to roast them) and all the trimmings. There will be entertainment, music, gifts, prize drawings, and lots of good old-fashioned camaraderie. There is no cost to attend.
The dinner party was conceived and brought to life by local realtor Chuck Gabriels. He was tasked some years ago with interviewing applicants for the San Gabriel “Christmas in April” program, and one elderly lady—a lovely, lonely widow with no family nearby—stole his heart. “I imagined her on Christmas Day sitting in front of the TV with no one,” said Chuck, “and I vowed to do something.”
What ensued was a free, full course Christmas dinner celebration for over 75 seniors, many of whom would have been all alone at Christmastime. Each one got a photo taken on Santa’s lap, had a great meal, and left with a gift and a hug, and a feeling they are not alone after all. Then, as now, the community rallied to make the event a success. “These people are in many ways responsible for our very existence,” says Gabriels. “They deserve our recognition.”
To attend, please RSVP to Bill Graham at the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce, (818) 731-9302. Monrovia Transit can shuttle people to and from the event if needed. Please reserve your ride a day in advance at (626) 358-3538. Cost for Monrovia Transit is 75 cents.
Chuck Gabriels is broker of record for MonArc Realty, (626) 768-0780.
