Huntington Memorial Hospital will “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” on Nov. 17

Huntington Hospital joins nationwide effort to raise lung cancer awareness
Huntington Memorial Hospital will host a lighting ceremony on Sunday, November 17, as part of a national campaign to raise awareness for lung cancer. The ceremony is one of many “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” events taking place across the country in November in partnership with Lung Cancer Alliance, the only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to providing support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for lung cancer.
“The community is invited to join us as we raise awareness of lung cancer and provide hope, support and compassion for those impacted by the disease and those at risk,” said Robbin Cohen, M.D., medical director for the thoracic oncology program at Huntington Hospital. “Awareness and early detection are key to fighting lung cancer. We want to bring attention to this disease and what can be done to help save lives.”
The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the hospital’s north patio and will include remarks by Dr. Cohen, comments from those who have been touched by lung cancer and a glow stick lighting ceremony. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death nationally, killing more Americans than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined. The Lung Cancer Program at Huntington Hospital is recognized as one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind in the Los Angeles area. Our multidisciplinary program focuses not only on science and technology, but on collaboration with community physicians and an emphasis on patient service and support. Dedicated nurse specialists facilitate and coordinate patient care, enhance physician-to-physician communication and have developed a lung cancer support group that meets regularly at the hospital. The hospital also provides a pain service managed by the department of anesthesia as well as symptom-management physicians and nurse specialists who are dedicated to managing all aspects of cancer care.
Huntington Memorial Hospital is located at 100 W. California Blvd., in Pasadena. Parking for the event is available in the North Parking Structure. There is a $7 maximum parking charge per day in the lot.
