Inaugural Oktoberfest brings out beers lovers at Santa Anita

On Saturday October 12 Santa Anita’s infield hosted the Dog Haus inaugural Oktoberfest to the delight of German beer lovers everywhere.
28 German and craft beer breweries including Golden Road, New Belgium, Stone, Epic, Bootleggers, Speakeasy and Angel City were some of the featured beers.
Dog Haus, served up Beer Brat Dogs, Sausages and Tater Tots to a hungry and eager crowd of hundreds on the infield.
The Bavarian Wunderband and Spazmatics–plus a special appearance by Boogie Knights got everyone in the mood. The Bavarian Wunderband, a six-piece combo performed authentic German oom-pah band favorites as well as an Alpenhorn blowing competition.

Bryan Gallyot worked stage like a seasoned pro, while Santa Anita’s own MC José Contreras was on hand to assist people with racing terminology and betting booths while they are watching a giant live video feed of the races in real time.

The Stein holding and costume contest with categories including child, traditional nan and woman, sexiest man and woman were some of the day’s highlights.

Monrovian John Hunnewell, 84, won the sexiest man competition by a mile. For his trouble, John had to have his picture taken with beautiful girls and also accept a $50 betting voucher courtesy of Santa Anita Park.
