2014 TOURNAMENT OF ROSES® ROYAL COURT SELECTED

The seven members of the 2014 Tournament of Roses Royal Court were announced today at Tournament House. Selected from a group of 30 finalists, the Royal Court will attend more than 100 community and media functions, acting as ambassadors of the Tournament and the Pasadena community at large. Their reign will culminate with the 125th Rose Parade® presented by Honda and the 100th Rose Bowl Game® presented by VIZIO.
The announcement follows a month-long process in which almost 1,000 Pasadena-area young women participated. The Tournament’s Queen and Court Committee made its selections based on a number of criteria including poise, speaking ability, academic achievement, and community and school involvement.
The seven Royal Court members are (in alphabetical order): Ana Marie Acosta (#474), 17, Polytechnic School; Sarah Elizabeth Hansen (#408), 19, Pasadena City College;
Kayla Diyana Johnson-Granberry (#446); 17, Pasadena High School; Jamie Ann Kwong (#24), 17, La Salle High School; Katherine Diane Lipp (#253), 17, La Cañada High School; Elyssia Hadi Widjaja (#86), 17, San Marino High School; and Elizabeth Katie Woolf (#254), 17, La Cañada High School.
“The Queen and Court Committee this year had the opportunity to meet many, many impressive young women,” said Alex Young, chair of the committee. “We are confident that the seven young women we selected for the 2014 Royal Court will be outstanding role models who inspire the public.”
Rose Princess Ana Marie Acosta, 17, lives in Altadena and attends Polytechnic School. Ana is the captain of her school’s varsity equestrian team and a cabinet member of its Girls Service League. She also serves on Poly’s Ambassadors Council and participates in National Charity League and Girl Scouts, for which she is currently working on her Gold Award. Ana was accepted into the United States Hunter Jumper Association’s 2013 Emerging Athletes Program. She aspires to become a surgeon specializing in neurology. She is the daughter of
Dr. John H. and Sarah Acosta; she has one older sister, Christina.
Rose Princess Sarah Elizabeth Hansen, 19, lives in Pasadena and is a sophomore at Pasadena City College. She previously attended Vanguard University, after graduating from San Dimas High School. Sarah teaches pre-school at Pasadena Foursquare Church and enjoys playing guitar and ukulele as well as participating in dance and theater activities. She hopes to eventually transfer to either UCLA or UC Berkeley and pursue a double-major of Communications and Dance. Sarah’s parents are James V. and Beatriz Hansen. She has three siblings: Jason Sermino, Samuel, and Elizabeth.
Rose Princess Kayla Diyana Johnson-Granberry, 17, attends Pasadena High School,
where she competes on the tennis team. She has played the piano since the age of 8 and also enjoys photography. Kayla has participated since the 5th grade in College Bound,
a weekend educational program that prepares students for admission into and graduation from higher education institutions. Through Ideal Youth, Inc., she was an intern at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office for two years and has also participated in California Youth Think Tank, which trains and inspires young people to become future leaders. Kayla is the daughter of Derrick and Samantha Granberry; they live in Altadena.
Rose Princess Jamie Ann Kwong, 17, is a senior at La Salle High School and lives in Pasadena. She is president of the school’s National Honors Society and a member of the Senior Senate. She is active in National Charity League of San Marino and enjoys volunteering at Kidspace and Huntington Hospital. Jamie has been Varsity Cheer Captain and vice president of the Support Our Troops Club. She aspires to be an international lawyer and perhaps enter politics. Jamie is the daughter of Ray and Liz Kwong, and has an older brother, Jonathan.
Rose Princess Katherine Diane Lipp, 17, lives in La Cañada and attends La Cañada High School. She has participated on the school’s pep squad and volunteered with Brothers’ Helpers, which seeks to prepare and deliver nutritious meals for the poor in downtown Los Angeles. Katherine hopes to pursue a career in art and design and is considering several schools in California. She currently works at The Paper Rabbit in Montrose. Katherine is the daughter of Anthony R. and Roberta Peters Lipp. Her older brothers are Jack and Tony.
Rose Princess Elyssia Hadi Widjaja, 17, is a senior at San Marino High School and lives in San Marino. She is captain of the school’s Speech and Debate team, head anchor of its Titanian News Team and treasurer of the ACTS Club. Elyssia has volunteered with the American Cancer Society and Let’s Hope Organization. She is interested in studying business,
communications, public relations and/or broadcast journalism at either University of Southern California or Pepperdine University. Elyssia is the daughter of Anthony and Suryani Widjaja. She has two sisters, Lilliana and Erina
Rose Princess Elizabeth Katie Woolf, 17, attends La Cañada High School and lives in La Cañada. She is the school’s 2014 yearbook editor, co-captain of varsity song squad, treasurer of the pep squad and a 2nd grade tutor and teacher’s assistant at La Cañada Elementary School. Elizabeth has volunteered at Pasadena’s Elizabeth House and enjoys leading and motivating young adults in their athletic and educational endeavors. She hopes to attend University of Michigan and study business in preparation for a career with and educational institution. Elizabeth’s parents are Jeff and Cathy Woolf; her siblings are Bradley and Grant.
The members of the Royal Court receive wardrobe and accessories for their busy schedule of media events and community appearances from Macy*s, formal gowns from Tadashi, hair styling from Amadeus Salon and Spa, cosmetics and consultation from MAC, and crowns and tiaras courtesy of Mikimoto.
The 2014 Rose Queen will be announced and crowned October 24 at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena.
