Monrovia High stomp on Arcadia High, 49-7

Wildcats running back Kurt Scoby rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns on just 12 carries as visiting Monrovia High stomped on Arcadia High, 49-7, on Friday night in a nonleague game.
Scoby scored on runs of 94, 50, 45, 21 and 20 yards as the Apaches defense had no idea how to contain the senior rusher.
Monrovia coach Ryan Maddox said Scoby has a bright future ahead of him.
“He’s got a couple of offers at the next level,” Maddox said. “This won’t be the end of football for him. He’s a very good young man. He works hard. It’s just the beginning for him.”
He added his team played well and on all cylinders.
“Our offensive line did a great job,” Maddox said. “Defensively, we were lights out. But we did a good job running the football tonight. You got to give credit to the offensive line up front. Then (Scoby) found the holes and accelerated.”
Arcadia coach Andrew Policky said he knew his team would have its hands full with the Wildcats.
“We just got a lot of work to do,” Policky said. “(Monrovia was) a good football team. We knew that coming in. There’s a lot of things we can improve on. We’ll come back and look at the tape, try to clean it up and get better. We came out and made a lot of mistakes early. But we’ll be alright.”
While Scoby led the offense, the defense also played exceptionally well, limiting the Apaches to just 21 yards rushing in the first half.
Monrovia benefitted from excellent field position – especially in the first half – and began several drives in Arcadia territory.
The Wildcats began the game on the Apache 38-yard line and scored five plays later on a 20-yard run by Scoby.
Scoby would then find the end zone two more times in the first quarter alone.
Arcadia got its lone touchdown midway through the second quarter and cut the Monrovia lead, 21-7, when quarterback Joey Harmon hit running back Niko Cantos with a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Following another Scoby touchdown, Monrovia made it, 35-7, just before the half when running back Kameron Johnson scored from three yards to cap a four-play, 71-yard drive that was highlighted by a 50-yard run by Scoby.
