Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens Sunset Safari

Sat Sept 28

Sunset Safari, an exclusive after-hours wildlife fest at the L.A. Zoo for SAFARI CLUB donors hosted by the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), takes place on Saturday, September 28, 2013. One of many SAFARI CLUB benefits, the evening features wildlife of Africa and South America and gives guests a chance to experience animals up close through keeper talks, animal feedings, training demonstrations, and strolling animal walkabouts.

SAFARI CLUB is GLAZA’s premier upper-level giving society starting at $1,500. Donors have numerous opportunities throughout the year for encounters with exotic animals, meetings and discussions with the Zoo Director and curators, and learning the latest in wildlife research and conservation from experts in the field.

Individuals who become SAFARI CLUB members are among an elite group who believe strongly in the L.A. Zoo’s mission to inspire an appreciation of wildlife through animal exhibits and education, to ensure the highest level of animal welfare, and to support programs that preserve biodiversity and conserve natural habitats. On a local level, their support helps underwrite the Zoo’s general operations, education and outreach programs, and exhibit enhancements for its animal population. Globally, they contribute to the Zoo’s dozens of international conservation and breeding programs, offering hope of recovery for many of the earth’s endangered species.

SAFARI CLUB is the pinnacle among the donor and membership programs presented by the private, nonprofit GLAZA. For five decades, the organization has funded plant and animal exhibits, species conservation, capital projects, and education and community outreach programs at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife. GLAZA also builds and invests endowment funds and operates five essential departments on behalf of the L.A. Zoo: development, publications, membership, volunteers, and oversight of the food and retail concessions. Last year the Zoo welcomed 1.6 million visitors, 500,000 of whom were school-aged children. There are currently 73,000 GLAZA-member households representing more than 300,000 adults and children, the largest membership base of any cultural organization in Los Angeles. GLAZA additionally boasts a volunteer corps of more than 800 individuals.

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is located in Griffith Park at the at the junction of the Ventura (134) and Golden State (5) freeways. www.lazoo.org/support
