Jessika wrote the script after reading her aunt’s short story that was based on the recollection of Jessika’s grandmother/the aunt’s mother. It will screen on Monday, August 19th at 4pm.
My Name is Mattie concerns a 1910 murder that occurred in the eastern Washington town of Pomeroy. After being sent to the Walla Walla Penitentiary, the townspeople rallied for a pardon from the Governor. This film was shot on Vashon, Pomeroy and Palouse WA. Jessika researched the story at several libraries and museums including the Washington State Archives where she read the original pardon document with the towns peoples’ signatures and held Mattie’s mug shot. It will screen on Tuesday, August 20th at 6pm.
In addition to the film screenings, Jessika will lead a workshop, The Muse of Music, designed for actors, directors and writers to increase emotional performance in pre-production and production phases. This workshop is open to actors, directors and writers, but registration is needed as the workshop is limited to 20 participants.
This is Jessika’s third year at the AOF. Last year in Monrovia, she was the Winner of the Without a Box Best Script; Best Composition, was the Runner Up for Best Dialogue and Runner up for Best Short Dramatic Script. In 2011, She won the Best Female Filmmaker Award in the Short Film Category.
