Pasadena Fire responded to a well involved carport fire at 5:30 a.m. (7/9/13) on the 100 block of Chester Avenue/Union with smoke showing from several miles away. The carport was totaled and the attached back house is uninhabitable. One adult male was displaced from the back house and an adult couple in the front house escaped without injury. Four cars were damaged (two under the carport sustained heavy damage and two in a nearby apartment were damaged by radiant heat). Additionally, several windows were broken in the nearby apartment from the heat. No injuries. Thirty three fire personnel on-scene comprised of two trucks, one rescue ambulance and five engines. Twenty-minutes to knockdown. $400,000 structure damage, $100,000 content. Please call if you need further information.
