Students at the Temple City Education Center, located at 6410 Rosemead Bld. in Temple City have found a way to make the world a better place because of their reading and writing. This year they wrote letters to the sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis who are serving our country, sent letters of appreciation and blankets to the Veterans Stand Down event which served some of our local homeless Veterans, and read books to raise money for the Read to Feed program, which donates livestock and trees to impoverished families so that they can have a source of sustainable income and help others in their area as well. The students shared their thoughts and feelings about what they have been able to accomplish this year in hopes that other students and groups will be inspired to find ways to make a difference in our community and world. (For more information about the Read to Feed Program, contact www.heifer.org/readtofeed.)
I believe I was born to do good things, and why wait when I could start with this fantastic program. This program allowed me to use my capabilities as a writer to raise money for many young children around the world to make their lives better. I believe that every person, young or old, should pick up a good book to help those who are in need. This program makes me feel good about myself, and whenever I think about it, it makes me feel warm inside knowing that kids won’t starve, for they were also born for great things. Megan Tran
I like to use my education to help others because it could help improve people’s lives. In my writing class, we read books for Read to Feed, wrote letters and sent blankets to Veterans, and sent hearts and wrote letters to the sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis. On the Read to Feed project, we raised about $500. The things our class did this year helped make lives of children and adults better. Kelly Tsai
Using my education to help people makes me feel like I am making the world a better place for people who live in poorer countries. This year my writing class read books to earn money to buy animals to produce food for people in the poorer countries. Our class raised about $500 by just reading books. I read 15 books in the past few months. This way people can have animals as pets to comfort them or produce food for a family. Through a program called Read to Feed, many people have more food. During the Temple City Education Center (TECC) writing class, our whole class wrote to help make the world a better place. We wrote letters to the Veterans and provided blankets for them. During the last few writing class sessions, we have been raising money by reading books on our own time to help people suffering from hunger. I hope our writing can improve not only this country, but the entire world. Ethan Wang
I was rather reluctant to write about our new Read to Feed program because it seemed like one of the usual generic essays. It was about donating animals to the 3rd World country residents. This seemed odd as it’s not a common thing to do in high tech cities like L.A., but does play an essential role in other parts of the world. We are donating on behalf of the school. As for me, I’m going to be honest. I personally participated because I was forced to at first, but I am now enthusiastic. I originally joined TECC to enhance my grades, but realized that now I’m changing the world, even if it’s baby steps. Addy Fu
This year my class was raising money to donate an animal to a poor family. This Temple City Education Center is really helping the world by raising a buck for every book we read. Like this, we may have saved homeless and many poor people. It may help many of the needy as they may soon serve the other poor. Bruce Huang
This year, in the writing class, we did some awesome programs. We wrote letters and helped sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis, we gathered blankets and wrote letters to the homeless Veterans, and we participated in the Read to Feed program. Helping children and adults made me feel proud. Using my education in writing helped many people who need help who are homeless. It helped take their fear away and make many people change from people who need help to good, healthy people. Ivan Lin
Do you know that your education can help the poor? You can help them by buying them an animal so they can raise it and get eggs or other products. They raise them to earn money. Our class also wrote to the sad sailors on the U.S. S. Stennis. In my opinion, thanks to TECC I feel like I found my hidden potential. Serena Wang
TECC Writing class helped the Veterans last fall. There was a time when I was at a place where a Veteran told me that he got a letter. I was really glad he felt really touched by my letter. My education and character are better since I have helped and encouraged other people. Maybe I will start my own business to help others. Just look for “Veterans Need Help!” Amanda Tsang
I love to use my education to help people who have difficulties with many things. I have participated in collecting blankets for Veterans, writing letters to the women on the U.S.S. Stennis, and now I am helping the Read to Feed program by reading. Other people also deserve to live lives with peace harmony, and happiness. I feel that some children and families are suffering from hunger. That is why I would like to help. From your supporter, Ethan Mo.
I think using our education to make a better world is important for people who are less fortunate than we are. Even the animals we can buy with our sponsorship money benefit from the program. I read about 20 books, and I think our money really helped the needy people get animals. By writing and reading, we can help the needy while being educated at the same time. This year, we participated in Read to Feed, we helped homeless Veterans, and we also wrote to the lady sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis. Katie An
Throughout the year, my writing class wrote letters and gave gifts to struggling Americans. For example, we wrote letters and gave blankets to homeless Veterans. We just recently raised over $500 for the Read to Feed organization. As a result, benefitting the world with education helps both the less fortunate and those who gave. Claire Huang
I learned many things from my education. There are homeless and people who are starving. I want to find people to help me raise money for the poor. I want to raise money by selling different things. When I have enough money, I will give the starving a great feast and the homeless very comfortable houses. Chris Chen
This year our class had many opportunities to do good things. One of the things was to write letters to the sailors serving on the U.S.S. Stennis. My writing class and I have used our educated brains to raise money for needy people. We have read many books to make us smarter and to help people in need. Everyone can make a difference. Lucas Ye
I think we can be an example to everyone. This year my teacher asked us to write letters and raise money for needy people. Our class raised about $500. I voted to ask the Read to Feed program to use our money to send the needy people bees. I read 14 books to help. Cassidy Tran
This year the TECC Writing Class was helping the poor. Our teacher led her class in doing “stuff.” The “stuff” was helping Veterans, writing letters to the sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis, and raising money for the Read to Feed Program. I felt good and proud to do these activities with my class. Edward Jiang
This year, my class raised some money to help needy people buy animals. In the program we were working with, we read books and our sponsor paid $1 for every book we read. Overall, we raised about $500 to buy animals with that money. We also wrote and had a project to give blankets to homeless Veterans. We sent letters to the women sailors on the U.S.S. Stennis to show that people still care about them. Wesley Hung
I helped people when I participated in Read to Feed. It is a program where people read books and sponsors donate money for each book you read. I think that the money my writing class and I donate will change people’s lives and make them better. Shannon Le
This year in class, we raised $500 by reading books to raise money for the Read to Feed program. In class we also wrote letters to the Veterans and to the women on the U.S.S. Stennis. This year I learned a lot that many people are in need. Jackie Li
This year, our class had lots of opportunities to help people in need. We did projects for the U.S.S. Stennis, homeless Veterans, Read to Feed and many others. I read 20 books in total. Everyone can make a difference. Jiemi Xie
I had to do many projects that were very complicated, but I got them done. Because of the skills I learned, I helped many Homosapiens also known as humans. I helped give blankets and letters to the Veterans. They came back from the war and had no jobs. Anyone can help make a change. Hubert Huang
Also participating in the projects, but absent on the day the notes were written, Xuan Kuang, Thaddeus Yan, Kelly Zheng, and Julian Thai.
