

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run will take place throughout the Tri-Valley area. Glendale Police Department officers and staff will be running alongside Special Athletes to support the great cause. Officers from LAPD, CHP, and Burbank PD will join Glendale PD as they carry the “Flame of Hope” 60 miles through the San Fernando Valley as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The Torch Run consists of more than 4,000 officers and Special Olympics athletes running 1,500 miles through 200 communities in Southern California to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Southern California.
Special Olympics Southern California is a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.
Glendale’s 5.5 mile run will be at a pace which accommodates all abilities (11-12 min. mile). Glendale is scheduled to receive the Torch at 1:30 pm from the Burbank Police Department at Glen oaks / Alameda. The run concludes at Colorado and the 2 Freeway when LAPD receives the touch from Glendale.
