Closure of Santa Anita Ave. Thursday begins seven months of bridge construction in Arcadia
Crews will be constructing a new bridge over Santa Anita Avenue at the railroad crossing in Arcadia, as part of the 11.5-mile Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project. Long-term lane closures on Santa Anita Avenue are required to accomplish this work. The lanes will be closed approximately from Newman Avenue to Santa Clara Street. The lane closures will occur in phases with a total duration of approximately seven months. The first phase of lane closures will take approximately 4 months, and include the closure of La Porte Street at Santa Anita Ave. Pedestrians will be detoured around Santa Anita Avenue during this phase of work. One night of full closure of Santa Anita is scheduled to take place this Thursday, May 23, 2013, to set the traffic control equipment.
– Seven months of lane closures are scheduled to begin this week.
– A full closure of Santa Anita Ave will take place on Thursday, May 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following morning. This full closure is needed to set-up the traffic control for the first phase of lane closures.
– Once traffic control is placed, the right lanes on northbound and southbound Santa Anita Avenue will be closed approximately between Newman Avenue and Santa Clara Street. These lane closures will be implemented beginning Friday, May 24th and continue for 4 months.
– Construction work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
– Note: Occasional work on Saturdays, Sundays, during the night or longer work hours may be required.

Construction schedules are subject to change for various reasons, including, but not limited to, weather conditions and unforeseen delays.
And Away They Go – Santa Anita Avenue lanes, that is. For the next several months motorists along this already busy street in Arcadia will find considerable delays as work progresses on the Santa Anita bridge for the Gold Line and lanes in either direction will be down to one. -Photo by Terry Miller
