Warmer weather means high fire alert in SoCal
Surface high pressure building into the Great Basin will set the stage for a possible late-season offshore wind event across Southwest California which began Wednesday. The offshore flow will likely cause daytime temperatures to warm by midweek across the area. Afternoon high temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 90s between Thursday and Saturday across many mountain and valley locations. The easterly winds will also bring a drying trend to the area, with humidity values potentially dropping into the single digits for many areas late in the week. The combination of gusty winds, hot temperatures and a very dry air mass could potentially bring critical fire weather conditions to the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties Wednesday through Friday. Authorities urge extra caution during this time.
