An unprecedented 15 miles of car-free streets from Downtown to Venice Beach – Free and open to all
Los Angeles will celebrate its 6th CicLAvia on Sunday, April 21, the city’s largest open-streets event to date. For the first time, CicLAvia’s route will connect the city’s historic center at El Pueblo de Los Angeles in downtown and the bustling boardwalk of Venice Beach by way of Venice Boulevard, creating an unprecedented 15 miles of car-free space for strolling, biking, playing, and experiencing the city from a new perspective. The new route showcases Los Angeles’ diverse landscapes, taking participants through historic neighborhoods, culturally rich communities, and to the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean.
“We’re excited to bring CicLAvia to new neighborhoods, because we want people to understand that CicLAvia is for all of Los Angeles, not just downtown,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Aaron Paley. “CicLAvia gives Angelenos a sense of possibility about the future, a sense of what Los Angeles could be with fewer cars – a city where we can connect with others and our surroundings without the barrier of the car.”
April’s CicLAvia route unites the distinctive neighborhoods of Downtown, Westlake, Pico Union, West Adams, Mid-City, Culver City, Mar Vista, Palms, and Venice, and connects them as one continuous community. CicLAvia will also feature a wide range of locally produced activities and programs along the route, inviting participants to enjoy the unique personality of each neighborhood, their local eateries, shops, architecture, and the people themselves.
Official CicLAvia activities include Kids Zones at the City Hall and Venice Beach hubs where children can learn the fundamentals of bicycle safety and practice their skills in a car-free environment. Food trucks will be located at five hubs including City Hall, MacArthur Park, San Vicente Boulevard, Cadillac Avenue, and Venice Beach. Bike rentals will be available through Bike Nation at the City Hall and Mid-City hubs, as well a number of bike shops that line the new route. Nine hubs are located along the CicLAvia route, offering free water, portable and wheelchair-accessible restrooms, and first-aid stations. The popular event attracts over 100,000 participants and enjoys enthusiastic support from residents, businesses, and visitors. CicLAvia is free of charge and open to all. No reservations are required.
