Attorney Caree Harper (representing Kendrec McDade’s father, Kenneth) added Oscar Carrillo to the list of defendants in the federal civil rights lawsuit filed earlier last year against the city of Pasadena in the wake of the shooting that killed McDade on March 24 last year.
Carrillo has admitted that he lied on a 9-1-1 call on March 24 when he claimed McDade and a teen accomplice robbed him at gunpoint. Carrillo, an undocumented immigrant, has never been charged with a crime in connection with McDade’s death.
The family of the slain teenager hope to win a judgement against Carrillo directly involve him legally in Kenrec McDade’s death.
Carrillo, who has not yet been served with the papers, was added to the lawsuit early last month. Carillo’s name now appears on the amended suit along with the city of Pasadena, Pasadena police Chief Phillip Sanchez , officers Mathew Griffin and Jeffrey Newlen and Detective Keith Gomez as defendants in the lawsuit that claims: civil rights violations; conspiracy; Monell allegations; wronful death; The Ralph Civil Rights Act violation; The Bane Civil Rights; Negligence and “Torts in Essence.”
